CONGRATULATION TO THE STEWARTRY BRANCE OF SCOTTISH SALTIRES WHO HAD THIS FANTASTIC PIECE IN THE GALLOWAY NEWS. They have worked so hard and this is a wonderful achievement.

Stewartry Sports Council Supports Fencing Club

The ‘Scottish Saltires Modern Pentahlon Club’ (Stewartry Branch) were delighted to hear that they had achieved accreditation as a recognised Sports Club. Derek Archiebald, club trainer said, ‘We are so pleased to receive accrediatation as this means that the committe can now apply for some much needed funding.’ The parents and children have worked hard to get to this stage by running charity cake stalls at tetrathlon events and receiving valuable initial sponsorship from ‘Craig Smith Fencing.’ Julie Smith of ‘Craig Smith Fencing’ added, ‘I was most impressed to see the children training diligently at the session and it was lovely to see the members encourage my young children to have a go. We hope that they do well in their first competition next year. The kit is expensive and all members have just managed to buy or source enough new or second hand kit to keep them going.’

The club are now aiming to buy a small SG FIE recording apparatus, for training purposes, which will bleep when scores are achievedand hence assist in the training process. The current machine is very old and is not in fit working order. Pauline Drysdale, committe member and parent, added, ‘We will be holding an open evening at Clarebrand Village Hall on 11th December from 5 – 6.30pm for any children who would like to give it a try. The young members will be assisting and we will also be serving coffee, tea and cakes which will be available to purchase on the night with the proceeds going towards club funds. The club would like to thank Darren Malin for all his valuable input in getting us to this stage regarding the accrediatation and to Derek Archibald for all the coaching as he kindly gives up his spare time to do this for the members.’
