These are held over two weekends in Hartpury, Gloucester for athletes in Youth A and B. Those in last year of Youth C are also allowed to enter.

Details of the events are on the pentathlon GB web site. The dates are 11th and 12th Feb and 5th and 6th May.

In order to be included on the ranking list, you need to do both events but if you wanted to have a go at just one for the experience, that's OK. The ranking list is then used to select teams for international competitions. All SSMPC members who went to the first selection competition were selected to represent GB at a youth international in Hartpury last March. Jo Muir and Eilidh Prise went to the Spanish  international, with both also selected for the European YA Champs, Michael Craig was selected for the YB Europeans, Kate Fowlie for the YA worlds.

If you are Youth B and you wish to enter, you can also do the Youth A event. It is   advisable to do as much as you can if you are traveling all the way to Hartpury as it is all good experience. If you just enter the Youth B you will only do a swim on the Saturday and a 2km CE on the Sunday. If you enter the Youth A as well you will also get to fence and do a 3km CE on the Saturday. You will, however be competing against many athletes who are older but the experience is valuable.

This year the selection competitions are been run using laser for the shooting. SSMPC have contacted Pentathlon GB and they have said they will be able to lend some laser attachments so anyone keen to have a go should be able to get a loan of the necessary equipment. Most of the equipment fits on to Steyer pistols.
